I was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire and diagnosed with Insulin dependent Diabetes aged 11.
My first job at 15 was as a Telephonist with the G.P.O
I married in 1974 and our son was born in 1975.
In 1977 we moved to Harrogate and a few years later became foster parents to children from 0-11 years but It became very hard to say goodbye to them.
I then decided to return to work I took exams and gained work experience working for the Community Health Council. My dream job was working full time as secretary at Princess Mary House, Harrogate but I became very ill and was unable to return.
Now retired, I am very active within my community as founder and chairperson of the Starbeck Christmas lights Appeal and organise fund raising events to raise the £8,000 needed to put up the lights each year. I’m also involved in other community projects and support other groups and charities, as well as being a qualified gardener.
