Highways Update – September 2026

Highways Update – September 2026

North Yorkshire Council is the Highways Authority but we're sharing their information to try and keep Harrogate residents informed.

We have been informed of the following Planned Road Closures by North Yorkshire Council Highways Authority.

RAGLAN STREET, HARROGATE – FOOTWAY RECONSTRUCTION AND KERBING SCHEME

20th July for 19 weeks

Highway maintenance/ improvement works at Raglan Street and a short section of Station Parade adjacent to Library Gardens, Harrogate.

The works are currently programmed to commence on Monday 20th July 2026 and will be carried out under a lane closure/ parking suspension arrangement between the hours of 7:30am and 5.00pm, Mondays to Fridays for a period of 19 weeks. A plan showing the extent of the works and the proposed phasing of the works is enclosed for your information.

Works will be undertaken in six phases working on one side of Raglan Street at a time. Parking suspensions will need to be implemented on both sides of Raglan Street over approximately half of the street to maintain a running lane and safety zone for the workforce.

Whilst the works are in progress, a fully signed traffic arrangement will be in place with parking suspensions implemented to ensure safety zones for the workforce, through access for construction traffic and the public. On-site personnel will assist in managing pedestrian access to properties and businesses within the closure.
Due to the nature of the work, it will not be possible to maintain vehicular access to off-street parking to premises during the phases of work outlined whilst kerbing, block paving and the flagged footways are reconstructed. You will therefore need to seek alternative parking arrangements to any off-street parking during those phases. If you have any specific requirements or concerns over parking, please contact area6.boroughbridge@northyorks.gov.uk.

Please be advised there may be periods when access will not be possible due to the nature of the works and physical constraints of the site. These may be a requirement to implement a small number of short-term road closures throughout the works to enable deliveries or movement by construction vehicles. Pedestrian access will continue to be maintained at all times.

Please note, this work is part of an extensive programme and therefore, some adjustment to this start date or the duration of the works may be necessary should unforeseen circumstances such as significant weather events or emergencies on the highway network arise.

To ensure the delivery of these works we request your assistance in the following ways:
· Please contact the Customer Service Centre on 0300 131 2 131, to identify any special access needs you may have prior to work commencing.
· Please make arrangements to store your vehicle at an alternative location, particularly when the phases affect your property frontage
· Please co-operate and comply with any instructions issued by the traffic management and site operatives and take extra care whilst within the works area.
