Proposed Cycle Track Orders – Pannal Ash Road & B6162 Otley Road, Harrogate

Proposed Cycle Track Orders – Pannal Ash Road & B6162 Otley Road, Harrogate

North Yorkshire Council is consulting on proposals to improve walking, wheeling and cycling routes between the West of Harrogate Urban Extension, local residential areas and Harrogate town centre.

We have been informed by North Yorkshire Council of the following Proposed Cycle Track Order:

North Yorkshire Council is proposing to deliver improvements to walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure in your area. These proposals are being developed under Section 3(1) of the Cycle Tracks Act 1984.

The proposals involve making Cycle Track Orders to allow sections of existing footways to be converted to shared-use or segregated cycle tracks, enabling use by both pedestrians and cyclists. North Yorkshire Council and its design partners have also been working closely with Active Travel England throughout the development and detailing of these emerging proposals.

The proposed routes will form a continuous link between existing and future development areas associated with the West of Harrogate Urban Extension and key destinations including Harrogate town centre.

Pannal Ash Road Scheme
➢ Provision of a predominantly segregated cycleway and footway
➢ Continuous route linking residential areas and Harrogate town centre
➢ Upgraded toucan crossing near Rossett Acre Primary School
➢ Short shared-use sections where constrained

B6162 Otley Road Scheme
➢ Shared-use pedestrian and cycle route
➢ Continuous off-carriageway connection
➢ New and upgraded crossings
➢ 3-metre wide shared path for pedestrians and cyclists

Why These Improvements Are Proposed
➢ Improve road safety
➢ Provide continuous active travel routes
➢ Support access to key destinations
➢ Encourage sustainable travel
➢ Reduce congestion and improve air quality

Works Extend
The proposed cycle facility on B6162 Otley Road will start at the Pot Bank / Otley Road junction and continue towards Harrogate town centre, where it will connect to the existing cycle facility on Otley Road.

The proposed cycle facility on Pannal Ash Road will extend from the Pannal Ash Road / B6162 Otley Road junction along the full length of Pannal Ash Road, terminating at the Pannal Ash Road / Beckwith Road / Green Lane / Yew Tree Lane / Whinney Lane roundabout.
Plans showing the extent of the proposed works will be available for review at the drop-in session
